Title: Data and Parameter Fitting in Mathematical Epidemiology
Physical Location
Allen Hall 14
Abstract: We will discuss epidemiological models and their solutions (existence, stability, and bifurcations). We will then connect these models to observed quantities and investigate their structural parameter identifiability properties using theoretical techniques, such as differential algebra, as well as numerical techniques. Finally, we will discuss practical parameter identifiability when the time-series datasets are not perfect (e.g., there is noise and limited observations). While the motivation is epidemiology, the various concepts apply to other areas of biology and even more generally to when theoretical models are confronted with data.
