Abstract:  The Composite Simpson’s Rule for approximating definite integrals is a standard topic in undergraduate calculus textbooks along with an error bound. To the best of our knowledge, no proof is given any calculus textbook currently in print. We present a straightforward proof of error bounds for Simpson’s Rule using integration by parts. There should be something for everyone in this talk; the main idea can be grasped by anyone with basic proficiency, while if we allow some real analysis to enter the discussion, we can get estimates with somewhat novel features.

This is a joint work with Hai Dang.
