Title

Machine Learning and Geometric Structures in Data

Physical Location

Allen Hall 411

Abstract: As a cutting-edge branch of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML) is an area of computational science that focuses on analyzing and interpreting patterns and structures in data to enable learning, reasoning, and decision making outside of human interaction. ML allows the user to feed a computer algorithm an immense amount of data and give the system the ability to automatically learn from experience.

This talk covers mathematical principles employed in ML architectures, for both linear classifiers and deep neural networks. In particular, we will discuss why and how to explore geometric structures in data.
